Film Review: American Made

Interesting story based on real life events although I suspect the writer has made that very tentative. We follow the life of a pilot who starts to work for various American goverment groups running guns and other goods into Central America, while also working for various crime gangs running drugs to America.

As can be exected from Tom Cruise, it full on action with a warmth that he's known for.

Film Review: Rough Night

Passable comedy about a group of girls meeting up for the first time in a while for a weekend away. Then it goes wrong when they accidentally kill someone.

The self-discovery aspect of the story is way to close to another recent movie, Girls Trip. While the comedy silliness is very basic slapstick with little depth or warmth.

King of one liners, and play-on-word jokes, Milton put on a great show tonight. Lots of laughter from the full audience.

Film Review: Logan Lucky

Given the great trailer, this is a somewhat disappointing movie. It tries hard to be a comedy crime caper but the jokes aren't frequent enough .... most are in the trailer.

Also not sure about Daniel Craig's southern accent since it seems to come 'n go in strength between scenes.

Film Review: The Hitman's Bodyguard

Nice action movie with a little bit of (unexpected) character depth. Samuel L. Jackson is definitely the star of the show with some excellent one liners.

Film Review: The Dark Tower

A kid tries to save the multi-world universe from a great evil. The Dark Tower must be protected.

Story and acting are okay but nothing special here. The 'evil' guy is just over-the-top evil, and some of the story logic is just broken e.g. who can hurt who.

Volunteer: Joseph and His Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat

Fun entertainment from the Gatehouse's Youth Group summer school. The show was particularly commendable since the kids only had 2 weeks to learn it all.

Film Review: The Emoji Movie

Simple story really targetted at 10 year olds.

James Corden should stick to his day job since he wasn't greate at character voice overs.

Film Review: A Ghost Story

Awful movie which fails to create story, cinematic or drama which can holds your attention. I wanted to walk out due to boredom but forced myself believing there might be a twist. SPOILER: There wasn't!

For example, in one scene which goes on for about 10 minutes, we watch a woman eat a pie with a fork. No sound, action or dialogue. Just sitting and eating a pie. Dumb.

Film Review: Valerian and the CIty of a Thousand Planets

Nice mixture of special effects however the world in which it is set has such improbable weapons and creatures that there is never any tension. Escaping any situation will no doubt involve something so crazy that you never feel the characters are in peril.

The love interest between Valerian and Laureline just doesn't work mainly due to the Cara Delevingne's 2D acting.

Chinese film which is quite good. As normal, some great fight scenes let down with some occasional weak special effects. Acting/story is a little light but fine for what it is.

Film Review: Detroit

Based on true story, hard hitting drama replaying the night in Detroit when some police 'executed' some black men.
