The short: I think many reviewers are unnecessarily harsh to this film and ultimately it is quite enjoyable. I would agree with some that the story to assemble the squad is lazy but this gives us more time with the real action. Also the plot line to build the ultimate weapon is a dead-duck but again this gives more time for the action. Even by the end of the film, I still didn't quite understand the full squad make up ("who was that big guy anyway? Dunno.") but, you guessed it, this gives more time for the action. And yes, Maggie Robbie (Harley Quinn) has both great butt-cheeks and a pretty giggle but, please director, lets try a scene without falling back to this cheap titillation. Ultimately the film suffers the same problem I've seen in several other comic book stories (Spiderman 3 and X-men I'm talking about you!) where the writers have attempted to squeeze too many major characters into the storyline while allocating them a key plot role. 2 hours is just not long enough to do this properly. All this said, I still enjoyed this for what it is, comic book silliness. Guns, swords, flames, mind-control, magic and of course explosions are all here to enjoy. You know the drill, leave the brain outside and enjoy the ride. |
